 Winning with Wolf
Continued innovation is key to the present and future success of Wolf Systems as a leading supplier to the truss fabrication industry.

Following the launch of its Windows 98 based roof design software package last year, Wolf Systems Ltd has further enhanced the flexibility, scope and power of its programs while maintaining the ease of use and user-friendliness for which they are well known.

A recent example of Wolf technology is the automatic design of attic trussed roofs featuring dormers. In many working examples the design time for these roofs has been reduced to less than one fifth of that previously taken – and when compared with competitor products the reductions are even more dramatic.

As a result of these innovations, together with further enhancements to the WolfPro integrated management control program, it is no surprise to learn that Wolf has been successful in persuading many roof truss manufacturers to adopt its system. Prominent among recent converts are Patrick & Thomsons Ltd. of Kings Lynn and Wheelers Ltd. of Sudbury – both of which signed up during 1999.

WolfPro provides customers with the facility to automatically generate order acknowledgements, despatch notes, picking lists, works orders and invoices, as well as a range of supporting management reports which are customised to suit individual needs. In addition, sales file data can be automatically transferred to proprietary accounts software such as Sage and Pegasus – thus ensuring that further duplication of data input is eliminated.

Wolf Systems aims to help customers to become as administratively efficient as possible, so that they can compete effectively while achieving a sensible profit.

Another development, which is beginning to show positive results, is the marketing by Wolf Systems of Argos Timber Frame Design Software in the UK – under the WolfFrame banner. Argos, of Boston USA, has more than 300 installations world-wide and has appointed Wolf as its UK agent. The software has been extensively modified to suit the local market and a number of installations have been sold.

The Wolf Group is also continuing to develop new products – such as the new range of truss assembly presses which includes a 175 tonne machine believed to be the strongest and most powerful table press ever manufactured. Three of these gargantuans – which feature a massive 1.2m wide beam and laser controlled automatic operation – have already been sold. Wolf also offers a 125 tonne beam press and a 100 tonne beam press – as well as the 40 tonne VectorPress which has now been sold to more than 17 customers worldwide, with the latest order destined for Canada.

Wolf Systems’ managing director Ron Bryan is enthusiastic about the major improvements and innovations which are currently in hand and which will ‘further enhance the quality and reputation of this company.

‘More developments will be announced shortly, including more efficient nailplate design. In addition, and after more than one years’ experimentation, we are able to offer pre-painted nailplates in Red, Blue, Green or Yellow which will not mark when pressed into timbers. We anticipate that these will have an application on exposed trusses and will appeal to Architects who wish to give the roof truss a distinctive appearance.

‘Our rate of innovations and our expanding field of activities ensures that Wolf Systems faces the future with the confidence that we will continue to deliver appropriate and timely products to the market.’
